The feudal castle of the Guilhem family is one of the most important and best preserved in the Languedoc.

The castle (above) :

This fortified castle dating from feudal times occupies a strategic position on the "Pioch Castel", a plateau which dominates on one side the Herault valley and on the other side the gap through which passes the Bedarieux road.
The construction of this imposing fort is usually attributed to the first known member of the Guilhem family mentioned in 1130 as being the ruling lord of Clermont. It’s one of the most important and best preserved feodal castles in the Languedoc.

According to the story of the Lords of Clermont, written by Abbot JULIEN, the very first Lord of Clermont was GUILLAUME DE GUILHEM, who became Baron in 862.
In 880, his jurisdiction was extended to 16 villages: Mourèze, Salasc, Liausson, Nébian, Ceilles, Nizas, Caux, Paulhan, Bélarga, Puilacher, Tressan, Canet, Brignac, Ceyras, St Félix, and Lacoste.
     
 
The Guilhem Tower (Donjon) (above) :

The Donjon, called also GUILHEM Tower, magnificently dominates this medieval defensive assembly that represented an important belt able to defeat all the enemies that dared attacking this town.
     
 
The Naou Doorway (above) :

the lords of Clermont-l'Hérault fortified the castle but also the surrounding wall of the borough.
The monuments such as the Rougas Door, the Frégère Door, the Jacobins Door, the Bassolhe Tower and the Naou Doorway (high patois) have not been destroyed by time and are still visible today.
     
 
  Saint Paul's church (photo on the left) :

the building of this church was begun in the 12 th century and completed in the 14th century.
